Iowa Mississippi River fishing from New Albin to Guttenberg
Iowa arrives mid-Pool 9 and owns the west bank through Guttenberg on Pool 10. That is why catfish and panfish tables open up on the Wisconsin NR 22 chapter while Genoa still feels like a different river. Read this after theriver overview for this stretch overview if you are staging from Lansing, Harpers Ferry or Guttenberg.

Where does Iowa enter our corridor?
| Pool | Iowa bank? | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Pool 7–8 | No Iowa far bank | Minnesota opposite Wisconsin |
| Upper Pool 9 | Not yet — Minnesota still opposite | North of ~RM 673.8 |
| Lower Pool 9 | Yes — Allamakee County / Lansing area | NR 22 on the Wisconsin table |
| Pool 10 | Yes — Clayton County / Guttenberg | Lock and Dam 10 |
What changes once Iowa is the far bank?
On the Wisconsin table you flip from NR 21 to NR 22. Catfish lose their ten-fish aggregate, panfish bags jump, and walleye stay on the six-fish protected-slot structure through Pools 9–12. Standing on the Iowa bank still means Iowa rules for that water — reciprocity does not export Wisconsin bags.
Which Iowa-facing pool pages should you open?
Pool 9 fishing near Lansing for Lansing, the Upper Iowa River mouth and the unmarked state line.Pool 10 fishing near Guttenberg for Guttenberg, McGregor stage and the Wisconsin River delta. Pool 7 and Pool 8 remain Minnesota-facing on the west bank.
Where do Iowa license prices live?
In the license finder, sourced from Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Free Wisconsin boundary-water weekends still waive the license only when that waiver applies to your trip — bags and closed areas never take the day off.
Questions Iowa anglers ask
Does Iowa touch Pool 8?
Not on the published Genoa corridor. Pool 8 is Wisconsin–Minnesota water. Iowa’s far-bank role begins in Pool 9 south of the Iowa–Minnesota line and continues through Pool 10 at Guttenberg.
Can an Iowa resident fish upper Pool 9 on a Wisconsin card alone?
Upper Pool 9 still has Minnesota on the far bank. Residency and reciprocity rules are trip-specific — use the license finder rather than assuming one card covers every mile of Pool 9.
Are Iowa fees listed here?
No. Iowa Department of Natural Resources fee schedules belong in the license finder so this guide does not compete for that intent or drift out of date.

Reciprocity agreements let an angler fish the boundary waters on a valid license from either adjoining state, but residents must hold a resident license when fishing their own state’s boundary waters, and anglers must obey the rules of the state they are fishing in.
